We have been very lucky at Grappenhall Cricket Club to have hosted 2 exceptional 'Legends Events' in 2011 and 2013.
Grappenhall Cricket Club are very lucky to have Neil Fairbrother as one of our own. It was Neil's passion that was the driving force behind both events along with his eagerness to put these on at his own Grappenhall Cricket Club. A lot of hard work went into setting up and running these events, with the success of the events demonstrated by the fact that those that attended still talk about them today.
In 2011 Grappers hosted an England Legends XI that included a host of England superstars including three former England captains. Players included Andrew Flintoff, Michael Vaughan, Mike Atherton and David Lloyd. The Legends faced off against Grappenhall's 1st XI, boosted by the addition into their side for a day, of International cricketing legends Muttiah Muralitharan and Wasim Akram. The event was watched by around 1800 people on the ground at Broad Lane.
In 2013 Grappers did it all over again, but this time went bigger and better. This event included a Warrington Wolves XI taking on a Grappers XI at cricket to support Ben Westwoods testimonial, following by an England All Stars XI against an Australian All Stars XI. Both games were full of quality entertainment. The 2013 event was a sell out crowd with around 2500 people watching both matches.
Both events were a great success and helped to raise significant funds for the club along with substantial contributions to several charities.
